The Biggest Loser Controversy
By Donald Lawson
This season of The Biggest Loser will go down in the books as one that brought to light that the show does not happen as the producers would like for viewers to believe. A few season's ago, Kai Hibbard, The Biggest Loser runner up, came out publicly and stated that the show is scripted and that it does not happen by the sequences shown on TV. The producers of the show, NBC and other quickly threatened her with a lawsuit if she didn't keep quiet about the show. So last season there were many abnormalities which proved what Ms. Hibbard said was true. For example. In the week all the contestants went home, the viewers were lead to believe that only a week had passed between way-ins. In reality over two weeks went by as one of the contestants let it slip that they had a week home plus another week working out before weighing-in. In the last week of the Season, all contestants lost an amazing amount of weight (all over 10 pounds). The had only been losing between 2 and 5 pounds in the previoius weeks leading up to the Season finale. Everyone was wondering how they went from losing 2 to 5 pounds each every week, to suddenly losing over 10 pounds (some lost as much as 16 pounds in the last weigh-in). There's not many of us who don't like one reality show or another. But reality shows are suppose to be about...reality! If producers are going to script out a show, then why call it a reality show? If we want to watch fiction, we can tune into any channel for that!
